Walter Norton Jr

Professional Journey

With nearly 30 years in the fitness industry, Walter has made an undeniable mark on athletes and clients of every level. From championship wins to personal weight loss goals, from mindset breakthroughs to professional milestones, his extraordinary coaching style has helped countless individuals achieve more than they thought possible.

Walter has trained more athletes in New England than perhaps anyone else, and his résumé highlights the breadth of his career:

  • NBA: Boston Celtics (2004–2008), including the 2008 Championship year

  • MLS: New England Revolution

  • WUSA: Boston Breakers

  • NHL: Boston Bruins

  • NCAA: Boston University Men’s Ice Hockey, Harvard University Women’s Ice Hockey

  • Olympics: 40 medalists across the 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2014 Games

  • First-Round Draft Picks in football, basketball, and hockey

  • Professional athletes in golf, boxing, lacrosse, and fitness

  • Celebrities in film, television, music, and media, including Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, Matt Damon and Others

Beyond training, Walter has served as a consultant for Nike on the SPARQ Performance Advisory Board, advised major sports organizations, run a corporate fitness business in Boston, and helped grow a top-ten NFL agency. He also co-founded Mike Boyle Strength & Conditioning (MBSC), serving as Director of Programming & Training for ten years. Under his leadership, MBSC became the largest and most well-known training facility in the U.S. But Walter’s vision was always more personal: to build a space where athletes and clients could form real connections, improve their athletic performance, and create lasting lifestyle change. That vision became reality in 2008 with the founding of IPF in Andover, MA.

Personal Journey

Walter’s passion for fitness began as a senior in high school, when training helped him grow into a Boston University scholarship quarterback and later a professional football player in Europe. Experiencing firsthand how fitness transformed his body and mindset lit the fire for a lifelong career in the industry.

When MBSC opened in the late ’90s, Walter started by training six kids on day one. Within a decade, the program was serving 450 athletes daily. While the growth was rewarding, Walter realized he missed the deeper relationships and daily mentoring that had fueled his love for coaching. That desire for a more hands-on, personal environment led him to open IPF in 2008.

At IPF today, Walter brings his high-energy, structured, and straightforward style to athletes and clients of every background. On any given day, you’ll find Olympic medalists training beside teachers, parents, seniors, and young athletes—all pushing themselves to grow.

After more than three decades in the field, Walter is still motivated by early mornings, late nights, and every opportunity to coach. He now lives in Milton, MA with his wife, Liz, and kids, Mac, Walter James and Flo Jay, and their two dogs, Lucious and Rufus.
